The Promise of Summer

My calendar tells me we are halfway through the year. I bid farewell to June, my second favorite month of the year. (October, you may take your time arriving.)

While on the subject, my calendar failed to remember that I’m a bit of an introvert. Unlike extroverts, who thrive on moving from one activity to the next at a rapid pace, I need a bit more recovery time between activities. But alas, beautiful memories were made at Kelley’s Island, and then after, we tucked in a few days back at our PA cabin.

1988, a family of four (before Bret was born) with my family. Dad with his Bible tells the story of Patmos life.
And then there were . . . eighteen.

Resolve was one of the themes of our Camp Patmos chapel talks. I always count on God to whisper, and He did on Tuesday evening. Sifting through my thoughts…

“I don’t got this.” Then God, “But I do.”

On my own, I can’t fix every problem, conquer every fear, or face every challenge.

Once again, on the shores of Lake Erie with my Bible open, I sensed a new resolve. This photo of our grandson, Macien, speaks exuberance. Go for it! Clarity to walk through my calendar year. Courage when I don’t feel courageous.

“The Lord will guide you continually, giving you water when you are dry and restoring your strength. You will be like a well-watered garden, like an ever-flowing spring.” Isaiah 58:11

Macien sums up summer!

These bluebirds arrived this past week from two readers of my book. Thank you, Susan and Becky!

A bookmark is tucked into each book.

A quick update: Almost 250 books have traveled! I reordered them last week, and my shelves are now restocked. Another big step – for those who no longer use checks, books can now be purchased using Venmo.

Sharing a sweet response from a reader:

I couldn’t stop reading. From the very first sentence to your “…And watch the fog lift” on page 25, I was drawn in and enraptured by every story. Thank you for making yourself so vulnerable. I’m holding the book and hugging my heart to you and your words. ~ CH

Thank you for your many responses and purchases. Truly.

Meanwhile, besides attending to my little store, I have a new resolve for the second half of the summer. I’m busy planning our 2nd Annual Block Neighborhood Party, which we are hosting in ten days. And it will not surprise you that much of my calendar revolves around this couch-full.

Just missing baby Elijah

In my next post, I will share how that couch landed in our Hideaway, our hot tub room. Stay tuned. It surprised me.

Resolve: Decide firmly on a course of action. What is filling your summer calendar? And a curious writer would love to know – are you more of an introvert or extrovert?

Delighting in summer days as they race by.

Margi
