Lessons Learned on a Monday

#1 do not make decisions in the middle of the night.

#2 do not throw off the old for the new, especially in the middle of the night.

#3 if what worked many, many times isn’t broken, don’t try to fix it, especially in the middle of the night.

Many of you know I struggle with insomnia. (Any tips are welcome.) At 1:50 this morning, I came across a fancy baker’s site with a recipe for Pumpkin Rolls. With wide-awake clarity, I assumed her recipe would outshine my 40-year-old one. Dessert for our church small group – check, check.

At 6:00 a.m., I did a side-by-side comparison of the two recipes. All the ingredients were the same except for one.Ā  Fancy Baker’s called for 1/4 cup more pumpkin. Being a pumpkin lover, what’s not to love about that minor adjustment?

From oven to island, the cake was nothing but trouble. Regret had already settled in. A picture tells.

The cake wasn’t spongy; it should have been. It stuck to my confectionery-dusted towel; it shouldn’t have. The realization set in. There would be no beautiful presentation tonight.

I’m thankful for gracious friends. And lots of dusted powdered sugar.

#4 lesson – never underestimate the small change.

Let’s see. Where could I go with that thought?
